Privacy Policy

Overview

ShortAI is a family study product designed to answer factual questions with short, read-only responses. Our privacy approach is based on collecting only the information needed to operate accounts, provide answers, process subscriptions, protect the service, and support parents.

This policy describes how ShortAI collects, uses, and protects information for family study tools and teacher-directed school assignments.

Information We Collect

Depending on how you use ShortAI, we may collect the following categories of information:

  • Account information: identifiers such as email address and account ID, handled through our authentication provider.
  • Subscription information: plan status, customer ID, subscription ID, and renewal dates needed to manage paid family plans.
  • Usage information: request counts, rate-limit events, safety events, timestamps, plan limits, and basic operational logs.
  • Child profile settings: parent-created profile names, age-range selections, pause status, and answer limits.
  • Questions submitted to ShortAI: question text is sent to our AI provider so an answer can be generated, but ShortAI does not store normal question text or answer text by default.
  • School assignment information: teacher-created class names, assignment titles, generated study steps, generated quizzes, student identifiers, selected quiz answers, scores, timestamps, and assignment link codes.

We also collect limited security information, such as IP-derived rate-limit keys, browser or device signals, and error information, when needed to prevent abuse, diagnose problems, and keep the product available.

Information We Do Not Sell

ShortAI does not sell personal information. We do not use student questions to build advertising profiles, and we do not display behavioral advertising inside the product.

Information We Try Not to Store

ShortAI is intentionally designed to avoid storing ordinary study questions, generated answers, or open-ended conversation histories in our application database by default. We may keep operational records that a request occurred, whether a safety rule was triggered, which plan limit applied, and whether an answer was blocked, but those records are designed to avoid storing the full content of a child's normal question.

School assignments are different because the teacher dashboard needs to show assignment results; for that feature, ShortAI stores the generated lesson steps, generated quiz, student identifier, selected answers, score, and completion time. ShortAI does not require teachers to upload student email lists for school assignments.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Provide ShortAI answers and cited responses.
  • Maintain parent accounts and child profile settings.
  • Maintain teacher classes, assignment links, quiz results, exports, and dashboard insights.
  • Apply family plan limits, rate limits, and safety protections.
  • Process subscriptions and billing events.
  • Diagnose errors, monitor uptime, prevent abuse, and protect the product.
  • Comply with legal, security, and accounting obligations.

Children and Families

ShortAI is designed for family-supervised educational use. Parents can create child profiles, adjust usage limits, pause profiles, export account data, and delete ShortAI application data. Parents should supervise use by children, especially children under 13, and should contact us with any privacy or account questions.

If we learn that personal information from a child has been collected in a way that is not consistent with this policy or applicable law, we will take reasonable steps to delete or restrict that information. Parents may contact us to review, export, correct, or delete ShortAI application data associated with a family account.

Schools and Teachers

The school assignment tools are designed for teacher-directed study with minimal student data collection. Teachers can create class names and assignments, share an assignment link through their normal school communication channel, and review student-submitted identifiers, quiz answers, scores, and completion times.

Teachers can avoid entering sensitive student information into class names, assignment titles, student identifiers, or other free-text fields. ShortAI suggests formats such as first name with last initial or a class alias, and does not require student email addresses, full legal names, student ID numbers, home addresses, phone numbers, or roster uploads to complete a school assignment.

AI Processing

When a user asks a question, ShortAI sends the question and limited context to an AI provider so the provider can return an answer. ShortAI instructs the AI system to provide a factual, child-safe response and not to act as a companion, therapist, or friend. Normal questions and answers are not stored by ShortAI unless an explicit product feature states otherwise.

Spelling correction may also use an AI provider after safety checks. That correction process is limited to rewriting the user's question text and is instructed not to answer the question, add facts, invite conversation, or change the user's meaning.

Service Providers

We rely on trusted service providers to operate ShortAI, including:

  • OpenAI for AI answer generation and spelling correction.
  • Clerk for account authentication.
  • Stripe for payment processing.
  • Vercel for hosting, deployment, and operational infrastructure.
  • Database and storage providers used to maintain account, plan, and safety records.

These providers process information for ShortAI business purposes and are not authorized by us to sell personal information from ShortAI users.

Retention

We keep account, subscription, safety, and usage records for as long as needed to provide the product, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and maintain security. Normal question and answer content is not retained by ShortAI by default.

School assignment records are retained while the teacher account uses the feature so the dashboard, exports, and classroom results work. Teachers can delete individual assignments and their student results from the teacher dashboard. Deleting ShortAI application data removes the account records, family records, and teacher-owned school assignment records we maintain in the ShortAI application database, subject to records that may need to remain with authentication, billing, security, backup, or legal providers for legitimate business or legal reasons.

Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect account and operational information. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we work to limit collection, restrict access, and monitor for abuse.

Your Choices

You may:

  • Export your ShortAI account data from the account page.
  • Delete ShortAI application data, including teacher-owned school assignment records, from the account page.
  • Cancel a paid subscription through billing management.
  • Contact us to ask privacy questions or request help with account data.

International Users

ShortAI is operated from the United States. If you use ShortAI from another country, information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate. By using ShortAI, you understand that privacy laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as ShortAI changes. If the changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify account holders through the product, by email, or by another appropriate method.
